Bodyscape Owner, Candy Williams :
A former Broadway dancer, Candy was the owner and operator of the Eleanor Durkin School of Dance in Baldwin, Long Island, which was previously owned by her mother for over 40 years. She has also directed and choreographed musicals for national touring companies as well as summer theaters including Gateway Playhouse here on Long Island. Since moving to the North Shore, she has been a student of the Authentic Pilates tm method since 1999 and a certified instructor since 2002.
Bodyscape Pilates overlooks the harbor in Historic Northport Village. We are a spacious studio, fully equipped with classic Pilates apparatus including reformers, chairs, barrels, cadillac,towers, pedi pull, mats and props. It is the perfect location for a workout that energizes both the mind and body.
The History of Pilates
Joseph Pilates was born in Germany in 1880. He was a frail child who grew to be a talented athlete competing as a skier,diver,gymnast and boxer.While interned in England during World War I for his German citizenship, Joseph became a nurse. He created exercise equipment for immobilized patients and wounded soldiers by attaching springs to hospital beds. This system became the foundation for his method of body conditioning and exercise apparatus which he brought with him to New York city in 1926.
